In 2024, Cashel Fine Foods made measurable progress in reducing packaging intensity, reflecting its commitment to sustainable production. The company reduced the use of outer cardboard boxes from 14.61kg/t of output in 2023 to 14.43kg/t in 2024, exceeding its milestone target by 45.7%. This achievement highlights the company’s proactive approach to packaging optimisation and waste reduction.

A key driver of this reduction was the introduction of new product packs and redesigned cardboard sleeves. These updated formats were carefully developed to use less material while still meeting functional and regulatory requirements. The new sleeves not only reduce cardboard usage but also maintain product visibility and brand integrity - an important consideration for a premium food producer.

Cashel Fine Foods invested considerable time and effort into the redesign process. This included developing a sleeve that complies with current food labelling legislation, showcases the product effectively, and aligns with the company’s sustainability goals. The team worked closely with printers to finalise the design and ensure a smooth rollout across product lines. This collaborative and detail-oriented approach was essential to achieving the packaging reduction without compromising compliance or quality.
