In 2024, Lee Strand made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint, achieving a notable decrease in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 1,183.1 tCO₂e in 2023 to 933.97 tCO₂e. This performance exceeded the company’s milestone target by 18.9%.

Two initiatives contributed to this reduction. Lee Strand installed a comprehensive energy monitoring and tracking system which enabled Lee Strand carry out targeted measures to reduce overall energy consumption. Additionally, the operations manager completed further training on Carbon Reduction Plans, equipping the team with enhanced knowledge to identify and implement practical emissions-saving measures.

Lee Strand also delivered strong results in Scope 3 emissions, which fell from 28,568.2 tCO₂e in 2023 to 25,809.65 tCO₂e in 2024, surpassing the milestone target by 23.2%. This reduction reflects the company’s growing focus on its wider supply chain and indirect emissions, an area of increasing importance in sustainability reporting.

Progress on Scope 3 reductions was supported by two key initiatives: The Lee Strand milk supplier sustainability initiative was launched in January 2024 which offered incentives to our milk suppliers for the adoption of sustainable practices on their farms.

Lee Strand engaged with a consultant to gain a better understanding of scope 3 emissions and to explore ways of tracking and managing these emissions. These actions have helped build internal capacity and informed future planning for emissions reduction across the business.
