In 2024, Bandon Vale maintained strong performance in sustainable packaging, achieving key milestones and advancing material transitions across its product lines. The company sustained zero PVC consumption per tonne of sliced cheese output for a second consecutive year, exceeding the milestone target by 2%. This reflects the successful elimination of PVC from all packaging operations on site.

The member completed or progressed all planned initiatives under this target, including an 18% reduction in the volume of plastic used in prepack films. These efforts support both environmental goals and packaging efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable and consumer-friendly product offering.

Plastic consumption per tonne of output increased from 237.6 LM/T in 2023 to 303.23 LM/T in 2024. Despite this rise, the figure remained ahead of the milestone target by 8%. The increase is attributed to the adoption of recyclable materials, which, while slightly bulkier, offer long-term environmental benefits through improved recyclability and reduced reliance on virgin plastics.

Bandon Vale also completed a full switch to recyclable base web materials for sliced products across four major retailers. In parallel, the company transitioned to recyclable top web materials across three major retailers, ensuring that the majority of its sliced cheese packaging is now fully recyclable. These achievements highlight Bandon Vale’s proactive and results-driven approach to sustainable packaging.
